Rhea Chakraborty and Aamir Khan had a heart-to-heart on her new show, Chapter 2. Aamir opened up about their first meeting during the Laal Singh Chaddha auditions. Even though Rhea didn’t land the role, Aamir was a total gentleman and sent her a message praising her audition skills. Aamir Khan recalled liking Rhea’s screen test, even though Kareena Kapoor got the lead role. Rhea was surprised by Aamir’s message later, saying it was rare for someone to reach out if you don’t get the part.
Rhea said, “You had sent me a message. Which I found very, very surprising because I have auditioned for thousands of films but it has never happened that when you are not getting the film when the producer, director or actor messages you and says, ‘Sorry, your audition was great, but the fact is we could not go with you.’ But you had done it and I was really, really shocked. I showed that message to mom, dad, everyone and said, ‘See, I am a good actor. Aamir Khan is saying I’m a good actor.’”
Aamir said that when actors are starting out and face many rejections, they should be told if they didn’t get a role. He mentioned how, in his early days, he would be left waiting and find out through the media that someone else got the part. “I feel that when you are struggling as an actor, because when I was new to the industry I used to give a lot of auditions and get rejected everywhere. I know that feeling. So I feel if I have not got that role, I should at least be told that I have not got that role. Otherwise I’d be waiting and wondering whether I will get it or not. Then I would find out from the media that someone else has been cast,” he added.
Rhea Chakraborty saw her career come to a screeching halt following the tragic death of Sushant Singh Rajput, her then-boyfriend, in June 2020. The media and public scrutiny around the case led to her being framed as a key suspect, despite the absence of solid evidence linking her to his death. The situation escalated when the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) arrested her on charges related to drug procurement. She was later granted bail.
