Robert Downey Jr finally reacted to making his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) comeback. The actor, who played Iron Man for 10 years, confirmed he is returning to MCU as Doctor Doom, a villain from the Fantastic Four comics. His comeback was announced at the San Diego Comic-Con by Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige and director duo Russo Brothers. RDJ re-confirmed the news by sharing a post on Instagram.
He shared a photo with the Doctor Doom mask along with a video of his grand entry in the Hall H of SDCC. He shared the post on Instagram along with the caption, “New mask, same task.” In the photo, RDJ was also seen wearing the iconic green robe that Doctor Doom wears in the comics. Russo Brothers took to the comments section and welcomed him back. They said, “We’ve always said green is your color…”

Fans also took to the comments section to express their excitement over his return. “ROBERT YOU’VE MADE ME SCREAM ALL OVER MY HOUSE. THE KING HAS RETURNED. At the Marvel panel of the San Diego Comic-Con, Anthony Russo announced that they had to get one of the best actors to play the role of Doctor Doom. “If we’re going to bring Doctor Doom to the screen — he is one of the most complex characters, most entertaining characters in all of fiction,” Anthony Russo said, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. “If we’re going to do this … then we are going to need the greatest actor in the world.”
“As proof of the unimaginable possibilities of the Marvel Universe, we give you the one person who could play Victor von Doom…” he added before RDJ took centre stage and unveiled himself as Doctor Doom.
Robert Downey Jr will be seen playing Doctor Doom in two Avengers films — Avengers: Doomsday, set to release in May 2026, and will seemingly reprise his role for Avengers: Secret Wars, eyeing a May 2027 release.
