It’s been 8 years since Abhishek Kapoor’s rock musical Rock On!! came on the big screen. And apart from the fact that the film launched filmmaker Farhan Akhtar’s acting as well as music career, the film struck a chord with those who had at least once in their lives aspired to follow their dream and pursue a career in music.
A film about a band called Magik and their reunion eight years later to win a coveted music competition, Rock On!! was a beautiful story of friendship, love for music, and following one’s dream instead of getting into the rat race. With beautiful songs and powerful performances by the entire cast- Rock On!! became an instant hit among the youth.
Eight years on, as the sequel of the film- titled Rock On 2-has retained most of its original cast and has included two new actors- Shraddha Kapoor and Shashank Arora- and it has a new director- Shujaat Saudagar- calling the shots.
As the film gets set to release in theaters this Friday, we take a look at 4 factors that make the film a highly anticipated one.
Music- The songs of the first part of the film remain popular till date and the team has ensured that the essence remains the same. The new version of Rock On is already climbing the charts and so is the Tere Mere Dil number sung by Shraddha Kapoor. All the songs have been composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy and they keep the tempo same as that was in the first film.
North-East connect- On of the few films to have been extensively shot in Shillong, Meghalaya, Rock On 2 has some beautiful shots. The film’s has been shot in not so common locales, which makes the film look rather different.
Magik and its members- Magik’s Adi, Joe and KD had issues that were all too familiar to us. The sequel has Farhan Akhtar, Arjun Rampal and Purab Kohli reprising their roles making the sequel an extension of the first part. Even Luke Kenny makes a cameo appearance in a flashback sequence. Having original cast in the sequel helps in taking the story forward the right way.
New cast- The prinicipal cast has aged since the first film came out. Hence, it is a good thing that the cast also includes two young and relatively new actors-Shraddha Kapoor and Shashank Arora. Both young, the two have in a short span of time proved their acting prowess in films like Aashiqui2, Haider, Titli and Brahman Naman. Besides roping in Shraddha Kapoor also ensured the film got a popular female face included in the cast.
