Ryan Gosling might enjoy a global fandom now, but there was a time when he was a fanboy himself, wishing for a celebrity autograph. The Hollywood actor is currently making headlines for his film, The Fall Guy. Out on a promotional tour for the action comedy, he revealed being super impressed by Black Panther actress Angela Bassett. The Hollywood star even recalled a moment when he got lucky enough to have a chance encounter with Angela Bassett who signed Ryan Gosling his first ever autograph.
Ryan Gosling made a guest appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on May 9 where the host wanted to know whether the Barbie actor asked a celebrity for an autograph in his life. Gosling revealed that the first celeb icon he requested for an autograph was The Ultimate Warrior. But the American professional wrestler declined his request. “But the second person I asked — the first person to give it to me — was Ms. Angela Bassett," he recalled.
Gosling continued that he was 13 years old at that time and had just watched Bassett’s 1993 film What’s Love Got to Do With It — a biopic on legendary singer Tina Turner.
Ryan Gosling added that the autograph incident occurred when Angela Bassett was at the AMC Theatre, reported Entertainment Weekly. Back then, he was coincidentally present at the premises to watch her musical drama. Calling What’s Love Got to Do With It one of Bassett’s “best performances", Gosling recalled that the actress was standing beside actor-comedian Sinbad when he approached her for a signed autograph. Bassett was nominated for the Best Actress Oscar for the film.
