Saif Ali Khan has played a diverse range of characters in his career. From playing the charming boy next door to the gruesome villain, he has proven his mettle enough times on screen. However, playing characters outside one’s comfort zone doesn’t come easy and requires a lot of effort. The actor recalled how when he had to play an underprivileged character in the 2011 film Aarakshan, his co-star Manoj Bajpayee wasn’t convinced with his acting.
Speaking to Film Companion, Saif said, “I did Aarakshan. I did a scene with him where I was telling him how much I have suffered, I have been so underprivileged in my life, and he was… after cut, he said, ‘I don’t buy it for a second’. He’s like, ‘Nawab saab, nahi’. He didn’t buy it for a second.”
Saif Ali Khan also recalled working with Manoj for the 2003 war film LOC Kargil. He recalled how both actors once drank so much while filming the JP Dutta directorial venture that they nearly ‘went blind.’ “We were holed up in some mountainside with JP, and I was in his room. I said, ‘Have you got anything to drink?’ He said, ‘I have this rum’ and it said Hercules XXX rum which we drank and nearly went blind,” he said.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Saif Ali Khan is currently shooting for his upcoming Telugu film Devara, alongside Jr. NTR and Janhvi Kapoor. Saif plays the antagonist in the film. He will also be seen in a Siddharth Anand action film wherein he will time travel to conduct a rescue operation. The director recently said that the heist film is fun and quirky. Fans are eagerly waiting to see Saif Ali Khan re-unite with Siddharth Anand after successful entertainer films like Ta Ra Rum Pum and Salaam Namaste.
