Suniel Shetty’s son Ahan Shetty is currently shooting for his upcoming movie, Sanki. However, if a recent report is to be believed, his high entourage cost has reportedly left producer Sajid Nadiadwala angry and disappointed. As reported by Bollywood Hungama, Sajid had promised his “old friend” Sunil that he would give a second chance to Ahan after his debut movie Tadap did not work well at the box office. While the shooting of the film was underway, Sajid has now threatened to shelve the movie due to the leading actor’s entourage cost.
“Sajid is having second thoughts about the film. The current market is not where it used to be from the satellite and digital point of view. Although Sajid managed to sell digital rights thanks to his bulk deal with Amazon Prime Video, he is not getting the kind of money he was hoping – either for the film’s satellite or digital rights. But that is not what broke the camel’s back,” a source cited by the entertainment portal claimed.
“It was when Sajid saw his leading man’s entourage costs that he lost his patience. Ahan’s staff costs – (hair, make-up, spot, stylist, driver, chef, trainer etc.), which were billed to production, were so high that Sajid threatened to pull the plug on the film, adding that it made no business sense to produce this project,” the insider added.
The report also claimed that Suniel Shetty had to step in to request Sajid not to let go of the project. Not just this, the senior Bollywood actor even offered to help Sajid as far as high costs are concerned.
In the last few months, several filmmakers have raised concerns about actors’ increasing entourage costs. Previously, Karan Johar also took a dig at actors demanding high fees and said, “It’s the main remuneration of the actors that has to be looked into. It’s very critical for all the actors to understand exactly how the times are, how the climate of our movies are, how tough and difficult it is to manoeuvre through making a motion picture of any magnitude or size.”
Prior to him, Anurag Kashyap also blamed producers and agencies for actors’ unreasonable demands and surge in entourage cost. He said that the surge in cost rose after more agencies got involved in making a star a brand.
