Sanjay Gupta Shares Cryptic Post On Advance Bookings Amid BMCM, Maidaan Release: 'Stop This Madness'

Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta has expressed his disappointed over the audience’s growing obsession with advance box office collection and bookings. The Shootout at Lokhandwala director took to X and shared a post suggesting that these discussions are not good for a film’s business and urged everyone to stop fixating on a film’s box office collection. It is unclear what has prompted Gupta’s post but it has been shared just hours before two big films, Akshay Kumar-Tiger Shroff’s Bade Miyan Chota Miyan and Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan, is set to release.

“First they started with Box Office figures declaring films as hits or flops. The producers supported this and created the monster. Now this monster obsesses with advance booking numbers. And none of this does anything good for the movies. Please stop this madness!!!” he wrote.

Many agreed with Sanjay’s plea. “The pre pandemic era was best. There weren’t any early reviews or advanced tracking to influence our expectations. Many of us even went to the theater without knowing much about the latest clickbait techniques. Nowadays even the 10th pass guy can track numbers and mislead ppls.” Another added, “True let the audience decide the fate.”

The conversations around the advance box office collections around this week’s two big releases have been in the spotlight since the beginning of the week. Bade Miyan Chote Miyan and Maidaan opened their advance bookings earlier this week and ever since, fans are keeping a close eye on the advance bookings of both to gauge the interests.

While Bade Miyan Chote Miyan is an out and out action film, Maidaan is based on the real events. The reviews of Maidaan are already out and they have mostly been positive.
