Sharmin Segal has been facing criticism ever since the release of Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar. The actress, who is also Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s niece, plays the role of Alamzeb in the web series. However, her performance in the show left many disappointed.
In a recent interview, Sharmin opened up about the trolling when she also answered if it has taken a toll on her mental health. The actress was speaking to Pinkvilla when she explained that she understands she is in a profession where different people might have different reactions to her work.
“I’ve been working on my mental health for a very long time in my life now. It is just not throughout my acting life. It is something when you start understanding yourself better, it becomes a lot easier to realize that you live in a very vast world where people with a lot of opinions,” Segal said.
“I’ve chosen this profession to cater to an audience, so I was prepared for reactions and responses and there has been so much love also. Sometimes looking at the negativity, we tend to completely omit the positivity. Maybe the first few days it did. I just felt a little like uneasy, but after that, it’s always a constant dialogue with yourself. You have thoughts, and then you think about those thoughts, judge, and that is what shapes morality and ethics,” the actress added.
Sharmin further stated that the trolling did not affect her because “there are people who are saying positive things also.” “I can’t negate that only because those people have taken their time out to write good things about me. And, I can’t suddenly fixate on somebody that has taken their time out to write negative things about me,” she concluded.
Previously, in an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, Sharmin opened up about her trolling and told us, “The audience is the king at the end of the day. And as a creative person, it’s very important to acknowledge that. They have a right to their opinion – positive or negative. That’s one thing that gives me perspective and allows me to be okay.”
Sharmin further shared that the positive responses were as many as the negative ones and yet the internet chose to focus more on the latter. “I had given my all to Alamzeb’s character. We tend to fixate on the negatives but there are so many positives that have also come along, which we don’t talk about. It’s perhaps not interesting enough to talk about positives and we tend to look over them to some degree,” she added.
Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar is currently streaming on Netflix.
