Red, White & Royal Blue includes a touching tribute to the star’s late sister, Kristy, in the end credits.

Just two months before the release of Red, White, & Royal Blue last year, Taylor Zakhar Perez lost his sister Kristy to complications from colorectal cancer at the age of 44. Perez, who is now working on the sequel to the hit rom-com, opened up about this devastating loss during an interview with Variety for its Actors on Actors series. He was joined by his co-actress Joey King for the interview.

Remembering her sister, Perez said, “She was the glue that kept our family together.” He further expressed, “It was really hard doing Red, White — and now I’m going to start crying — doing Red, White and knowing that it came out two months [after she died] and she didn’t get to see it.”

The actor continued, “We’re coming up on a year right now. It’s tough in the creative world because I feel like people throw themselves into projects to forget or to soothe or to distract. And I was like, ‘I can’t do that. I need to be with my family.”

FYI, Red, White & Royal Blue includes a touching tribute to the star’s late sister, Kristy at the end credits. Before the movie ends, it makes a final dedication, “For Kristy.” During the interaction, Perez also recalled the time when the director and co-writer Matthew López approached him to approve the end-credit scene. He was amazed by the thoughtful endeavour of the director to think of his family at the time of mourning.

Perez was extremely fond of his sister. Post her demise, he even gave a tribute to her through a social media post. In the heartwrenching post, he shared that Kristy was excited to watch Red, White and Royal Blue. The actor wrote, “I can’t imagine it (RWRB) premiering without her. She will remain our guide walking with us through life and celebrating us as we continue to grow with her in spirit.”
