Mumbai: Actor Arjun Rampal says Prime Minister Narendra Modi's demonetisation move will benefit the country in the long run. And he makes no bones about admitting how the timing of the release of his latest film Rock On 2, has turned out to be unfortunate.
Rock On 2 released on November 11, and Modi had announced scrapping of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes to curb circulation of black money on November 8. The ensuing cash crunch among the audience, directly impacted the box office figures for the movie, which would have registered promising footfall.
At the grand finale of Femina Salon and Spa Hair Heroes on Wednesday here Arjun, who plays a key character in Rock On 2, said: "Well, when the entire country does not have enough earning, how will Rock On 2 do business? People don't have enough money in their hand. It is an unfortunate timing for us and for any other film.
"Rock On 2 is a good film. I would still request those who have money to please watch the film."
Supporting the demonetisation move, Arjun said: "I think that in the long term, this decision is going to be good for our country. The move has shaken those people who are involved in black money business. In future, people will keep their money in banks and pay tax. Thus, the interest rates will drop. I think the quality of life is going to be better."
The 43-year-old actor will next be seen in Sujoy Ghosh's Kahaani 2, along with Vidya Balan.
Asked about his expectations from the film, Arjun said: "I can assure you that we have made a very good film. Sujoy, Vidya and the entire cast have really worked hard. We are trying to raise the bar. The audience should go and watch with family because there are wonderful things to discuss."
"I keep my fingers crossed for things to become better for people to go and watch the movie. Save your money and watch Kahaani 2," he said.
The suspense thriller is set to release on December 2.
