Malayalam actress Usha revealed a senior star misbehaved with her during a project she was shooting with him and Mohanlal in 1992. The actress opened up about the incident amid the wave of #MeToo movement in Malayalam industry. In a press meet in Kannur, in Kerala, Usha revealed that the actor misbehaved with her in an elevator and she raised her voice against him. She added that she informed Mohanlal as well, who said she did the right thing. However, after the incident, she was dubbed as ‘arrogant’ and lost a lot of work.
As reported by Manorama Online, Usha revealed that the team was working on a project in Gulf in 1992 when the said senior actor made a move on her in the elevator. The actress, who mentioned that the Malayalam actor has passed away, said that she immediately slapped him for his move. “Some might ask why I’m bringing this up now. I reacted to it immediately at that time. A video of the incident has surfaced now,” Usha told Manorama.
“A show was happening in Bahrain. After the show, we were waiting to go to the airport. Everyone was very tired. Mohanlal asked us to bring our belongings to the hall and said we could sit there and talk. Monisha, Revathi, Sukumari, and others were also there. I took my luggage and got into the elevator. The actor was in the elevator as well. He asked if we were going down. I happily got into the elevator. As soon as the door closed, he behaved very inappropriately with me. I hit him. By then, the elevator reached the next floor,” she recalled.
When actor Sukumari got into the lift, she could sense something had happened and enquired. “Actor Sukumari also got into the elevator and asked what the problem was. I told her what had happened and said I would inform everyone. Lalettan (Mohanlal) came and inquired about the incident, and I told him everything. Both Lalettan and Sukumari comforted me and said that I had reacted appropriately. That’s when the problems started. I informed the organisation about it, and they began labelling me as arrogant. They also said I was someone who pointed fingers at superstars. Eventually, I stopped getting movie offers,” Usha shared.
The confession came hours after Mohanlal quit his position as the President of AMMA (Association of Malayalam Movie Artists). “AMMA has decided to disperse the executive committee on moral grounds in the light of allegations made by some actors against some of the committee members. A new committee will be formed after an election within two months,” the statement read.
