The eras of the 90s and 2000s are considered the golden age of Indian cinema. Some of the biggest actors today were just starting, featuring in evergreen hits. One of those releases is Kushi, a Thalapathy Vijay-starrer. After its release, the film became a huge hit. It is believed by some that the film is loosely inspired by the life of the late actor Murali, an eminent figure in Tamil cinema.
The late actor Murali was fortunate to experience a love story like that of a film. He was married to Shobha, the two tied the knot in 1987 and had three children. As per the reports, the two met when Murali was helping a friend named Kandha in his love life. After spending time together, the two came close and ended up falling for each other. This is something that was shown in Kushi, the Vijay and Jyothika starter.
Even though, Murali usually portrayed the role of a shy person he did not waste time declaring his wish to spend his life with Shoba. As per more reports, within a month of their meeting, Murali proposed to her.
He faced opposition from his father, S Siddalingaiah, a notable producer and filmmaker. He believed that marriage would become a huge hindrance in his son’s career. Although, his mother provided her full support to the young couple and even organized their marriage. His father found out about the union only after the ceremony was done, at 8 pm.
The couple shared two sons, Atharvaa and Akash, and a daughter named Kavya. In 2010, Murali left for his heavenly abode after a sudden cardiac arrest. He was 46 years old.
It is believed that the 2000 release Kushi is inspired by his love story. Helmed and written by S J Suryah, the film stars Vijay and Jyothika as the lead. It was produced by A M Rathnam, under the banner of Sri Surya Movies.
