When Sooryavansham Actress Soundarya Talked About Exposing Bodies For Movies
Soundarya died in April 2004 in a plane crash when she was travelling from Karimnagar to campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party.

Soundarya, a popular actress who worked predominantly in Telugu and Kannada films, breathed her last in April 2004. Known for her role in the Hindi film Sooryavansham, alongside Amitabh Bachchan, Soundarya passed away in an aircraft crash near Bangalore. It has been 19 years since her demise. However, she is still remembered by her fans for her contribution to cinema and the candid thoughts she shared in her interviews. Soundarya was against the objectification of women and she openly admitted the same in most of her interactions with the media.

Soundarya, during a candid interaction with a media outlet, had noted, “I came to the film industry with the thought I would never expose. Though I have always wanted to succeed in the film industry, it is not in my principles to show my body. I am a strong-headed person and will contribute to the struggle for my growth as an actor.”

The actress further said, “An artist doesn’t need to cross the line of decency to be popular. The appearance of a character is not important. What is important is the impact that a character leaves on people. While actresses can earn popularity by choosing to expose themselves, the method is temporary as people do not remember such characters for so long.”

As per reports, Soundarya was travelling from Karimnagar to campaign for the Bharatiya Janata Party when the plane crashed. Within a few minutes of take-off, the plane caught fire, claiming the life of the actress and her brother.

With her performance in the Telugu films like Pavitra Bandham and Anthahpuram, Soundarya struck a chord with the audience across both Telugu and Kannada industries. The actress even bagged the Nandi Awards for both movies. Besides acting, she also produced the Kannada movie Dweepa which was released in 2002.
