'Zubaan' opening Busaan Festival feels surreal: Vicky Kaushal
The film is expected to hit theatres this October days after its world premiere at Busan.

New Delhi: One-film-old actor Vicky Kaushal is thrilled that his second project ‘Zubaan’, a coming-of-age movie about a Sikh boy, has been chosen as the opening film for the 20th Busan International Film Festival.

‘Zubaan’, directed by debutant Mozez Singh, also stars actress Sarah Jane Dias and is co-produced by Guneet Monga of ‘The Lunchbox’ fame.

The 27-year-old actor, who is riding high on the success of his debut film ‘Masaan’, said inclusion in Busan is an honour for him and the team of ‘Zubaan’. “It feels great. We all are ecstatic. Busan Film Festival is one of the most prestigious festivals in the world. It is an honour for any film to open it and for 'Zubaan' to be that movie, it comes from a very humble and honest approach, it as a new director, it is my second movie,” Vicky said.

“I feel so blessed, the kind of year it has been for me. First 'Masaan' represented India at Cannes... It feels surreal and it is too good to be true.” Vicky said he is happy that a commerical movie has been selected for an international festival. “Going to another nation and representing your country's cinema and that too taking a commerical film, they found the honesty and power in a commercial film to open the festival.”

The film is expected to hit theatres this October days after its world premiere at Busan.

“This news gives a huge mileage to the film, in a very organic, positive and honest way. It feels great when a nation outside respects your film and talent,” Vicky said.

The festival will run from October 1-10 in Busan, South Korea.
