Animal Song Satranga Was Originally Made For Another Film, Had 18 Versions: Composer Shreyas Puranik
Satranga's composer Shreyas Puranik said Sandeep Reddy Vanga heard him singing the song at a party.

Animal’s song ‘Satranga’ has touched the hearts of millions of people and the song’s composer Shreyas Puranik couldn’t be happier about this big success! Shreyas, who started his career 15 years ago as a singer calls the song a “blockbuster” success. In a candid conversation on ShareChat, Shreyas shared the journey of the song and his experience working with Arijit Singh and Sandeep Reddy Vanga.

Talking about the journey behind the song, Shreyas said, “Satranga was made in September last year for another project but couldn’t be used there. After 10-15 days, I attended a Diwali party and Siddharth-Garima (the lyricist of the song) were good friends with Mr Sandeep Reddy, so he was present as well. We were just singing the song, and it suddenly caught Sandeep’s attention. It was only a week after I got a call from his office, and they told me that Sandeep wanted to use the song for his upcoming film. That was a happy moment for me!”

He also added, “We created around 18 versions of this song with different music but since Day 1, Mr Vanga wanted the original raw version and that was used in the film.”

He also expressed his appreciation for Arijit Singh and how grateful he was to work with him although they did not meet during the recording of the song. He said, “Both Mr Vanga and I agreed that there was only one voice roaming around our heads and that was Arijit’s.’ Shreyas also recalled how it was difficult to get Arijit’s availability and he recorded the song only 15 days before the release.

Shreyas made his Bollywood debut by assisting Sanjay Leela Bhansali with the movie ‘Bajirao Mastani’. Talking about his experience working with SLB, he said “When it comes to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s music, there is a different level of expectation. I remember how he asked me to compose the song ‘Gajanana’ and I started getting recognition from there.” He further told the audience how the popular song ‘Binte Dil’ was supposed to be a dance number but ended up in a different setting as a love song.
