Exclusive: Sanjay Dutt's Punjabi Debut Film Sheran Di Kaum Punjabi To Go on Floors Post Diwali
Sanjay Dutt will be making his Punjabi film debut with Sheran Di Kaum Punjabi. The film will go on floors in November.

A few months ago, Sanjay Dutt took to social media to announce his foray into Punjabi films. Titled Sheran Di Kaum Punjabi, the film is going to be directed and produced by Gippy Grewal who will also be co-starring in it. Dutt wrote, “Proudly announcing my First Punjabi Film ‘Sheran Di Kaum Punjabi’ with Gippy Grewal @GippyGrewal #AmardeepGrewal #EastSunshineProductions.”. Grewal, who is basking in the success of his production ‘Carry on Jatta 3’, also welcomed the ‘Sanju’ actor on board with a tweet. He wrote, “Love you Paaji @duttsanjay. Welcome to Punjab,” on the microblogging site.

News18 Showsha has exclusively learned that the film will be going on floors after Diwali in Chandigarh. Confirming the same, Grewal said, “Yes, we are going on floors on November 24. Currently, the pre-production work is on and I am super excited about the film. It’s a nice action comedy film and I am sure Sanju sir (Sanjay Dutt) will be seen in a completely new avatar in this film.”

Grewal, who was in Mumbai to promote his upcoming comedy film Maujaan Hi Maujaan, said it was easy to convince the Munnabhai MBBS actor, “I wasn’t aware that Sanju sir speaks such good Punjabi. I was sitting at his house when he started speaking to me in Punjabi and I was shocked. I told him, ‘Paaji aapko kabhi Punjabi bolte hue suna nahi hai,’ (I have never seen you speak Punjabi), and he told me that he loves to speak that language. That is when I asked him if he would be open to doing a Punjabi film and he said yes. When I narrated Sheran Di Kaum Punjabi, he instantly agreed.”

The trailer of Maujaan Hi Maujaan, which is set to release on October 20, was launched by Salman Khan. The trailer of Grewal’s last release Carry on Jatta 3 which was the first film to cross Rs 100 crore at the box office was released by Aamir Khan.

The multi-talented person says that both the Khans have been gracious enough to show support to him, “Both Salman paaji and Aamir paaji have been an immense support for me. They could have easily denied it but they never said no. In fact, both the actors have even told me that if there is any role in any film that I am making, they would be glad to be a part of it. I am simply blessed to have such a support system in the industry.”

Grewal adds that the Bollywood industry has always been supportive of Punjabi cinema. “I always believe that if any industry has to grow, efforts have to be made. You have to go to places where people don’t know you and promote the film.”

“When Aamir Khan launched our trailer of Carry on Jatta 3, a lot of people watched it because of him. This time, our trailer was launched by Salman Khan, so now because of him a lot of people will watch our trailer. When the content is right, it has to be promoted through the right person, and then the reach of that film gets better.”
