Oscar-winning actress Michelle Yeoh and her family started the New Year with joyous news, as the 61-year-old actress along with her husband Jean Todt celebrated the arrival of their grandchild on January 1. The news of their newest family member was shared by the Everything Everywhere All at Once star on her Instagram handle. Later, Yeoh even clarified that the newborn boy belonged to her stepson, Nicolas Todt and daughter-in-law Darina. Despite Yeoh’s successful Hollywood career, she expresses hesitancy and shared that she doesn’t want her new grandson to watch her in the upcoming Wicked franchise, where she plays the character of a Witch named Madame Morrible, the school headmistress.
At the Los Angeles premiere of her Netflix series The Brothers Sun, Yeoh shared her thoughts with Variety about which of her films she would want her grandson, Maxime, to watch first. Reflecting on her upcoming project, Wicked, Yeoh expressed a humorous concern about playing a witch in the musical. She said, “I was thinking, I’ve done a musical, Wicked, I play a witch. What is not going to traumatize them? Maybe not one of my movies. Until they’re older.”
In a conversation with People, Michelle Yeoh disclosed that she hasn’t settled on a specific grandmother name yet. When questioned about what she wishes her grandson to call her, the actress humorously highlighted the importance of the child knowing his name and said, “Otherwise, he’s going to grow up thinking that’s his name. Remember, if you say no too often to a child, they probably run around thinking my name must be ‘No,’ because every time someone sees me, he’s like, ‘No, no’.”
Wicked is an adaptation of the famous Broadway musical of the same name, which was inspired from Gregory Maguire’s novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West. The story delves into the backstory of Elphaba, a green-skinned individual who eventually becomes known as the Wicked Witch of the West. The storyline then explores Elphaba’s relationship with her classmate Glinda, who later turns Glinda the Good. In the film, Michelle Yeoh plays the character of Madame Morrible, who is shown as the manipulative and corrupt headmistress of Shiz University, where the paths of Elphaba and Glinda collide.
Apart from Michelle Yeoh, Wicked also features, Ariana Grande, Bowen Yang, Keala Settle, Marissa Bode, Brownwyn James, Ethan Slater and Jonathan Bailey.
