The highly anticipated ICC World Cup 2023 semi-final showdown between India and New Zealand was held at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium. The event drew a crowd of celebrities with Rajinikanth having already touched down in Mumbai. David Beckham, Sidharth Malhotra, Kiara Advani, Vicky Kaushal and many others are expected to attend as well, making it a star-studded affair in Mumbai. And those who couldn’t make it to the ground, are glued to the television.
Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bat in the semi-final. Virat Kohli, who got out at 117 off 113 balls, has now surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most runs in a single World Cup, going beyond Tendulkar’s 673 runs from the 2003 World Cup. The 35-year-old Kohli also clinched his century by scoring a two off fast bowler Lockie Ferguson. He faced 106 balls, hitting eight fours and a six, breaking the record of 49 ODI hundreds that he had shared with Sachin Tendulkar.
Wife Anushka Sharma was cheering for Virat from the stands. Flying kisses were exchanged as as Virat marked his 50th ODI century, Anushka was left teary eyed. Meanwhile, Virat also bowed down to his ‘hero’, Sachin Tendulkar.
Many took to social media to congratulate King Kohli. Among them was maverick filmmaker SS Rajamouli. Taking to Instagram, he wrote, “Records are meant to be broken, but no one in their wildest dreams dreamt of breaking Sachin’s record when he announced his retirement. And the KING emerged. KOHLI.” He posted a photo of Kohli from the match and synced it to True Identity Revealed, an original score by MM Keeravani from RRR. Check out the post right here:
New Zealand players will be chasing 397 when they come to bat in the second innings.
