In an exclusive conversation with CNN-News18, Vijay Maurya, director of the upcoming OTT film Mast Mein Rehne Ka, spoke about the intriguing origin of the film’s title, revealing that it’s a Mumbai slang with universal resonance. According to him, the story’s significance transcends borders. He said, “This can happen anywhere in this world.”
Delving into the creative process, Maurya admitted his limited concept until his mother’s invaluable inputs enriched the narrative. He also recalled when an on-set camaraderie between Jackie Shroff and Neena Gupta took a humorous turn. The duo had a strict no-touch policy during filming, with Neena reminiscing, “Arre, knee touch ho gaya, durr hato.”
Thinking back on their partnership, Neena Gupta talked about how their roles have changed over the years. She highlighted the consistent factor of aging while recognising the significant influence of “Badhaai Ho.” Meanwhile, Jackie Shroff also addressed the #BoycottBollywood trend and the industry’s pandemic struggles. He said, “Learn, grow, and move on. Concentrate on your work, everything will be fine.”
During the course of the chat, the director jokingly spoke about his future plans, talking about an interest in “breaking dance” and expressing his love for filmmaking. He dispelled misunderstandings about the movie, emphasising its serious theme despite assumptions, and highlighted Rakhi Sawant’s pivotal role in it.
Revealing a touching pre-shoot ritual, he shared, “I kiss my mother’s photo before going to the shoot.” Neena Gupta, when asked about a celebrity trend she dislikes, candidly shared, “I am not very fond of excessive exercise!”
As Mast Mein Rehne Ka gears up for release on Amazon Prime on December 8, the trailer teases a compelling story. Jackie Shroff’s portrayal of VS Kamath, a lonely widower, and Neena Gupta as Mrs. Handa, an outspoken Punjabi lady, set the stage for an unconventional friendship. Directed by Vijay Maurya, the film also stars Abhishek Chauhan and Monika Panwar, with Rakhi Sawant playing a pivotal role in a narrative that takes unexpected twists.
