In 2020, veteran actor Rishi Kapoor succumbed to cancer after a long battle. In 2017, he had published his memoir, Khullam Khulla: Rishi Kapoor Uncensored, that had insights into his life beyond the showbiz.
Rishi and Neetu shared a 40-year marriage, and Neetu stood steadfastly by his side, keeping him company throughout his cancer treatment in New York. The late actor commended Neetu, expressing that she deserved a medal for her support through life’s challenges.
He wrote that his mother and sisters definitely think that Neetu deserves a medal for sticking to him through thick and then and he concurred with them. Rishi Kapoor sang praises of his wife, who he said, has tolerated his quirks and moods without pressuring him to change, in the book. “Incredibly, she has done it without nagging me to change, and patiently puts up with my whims and moods,” he wrote.
In the book, he also opened up about his ex-girlfriend Yasmin and how he would ask Neetu Kapoor to call her when he got drunk. As per The Indian Express, Rishi was in a serious relationship with Yasmin but after he became popular his attitude changed and he became arrogant. He has admitted that Yasmin realised and she decided to break up with him. Rishi revealed that he convinced Neetu to call Yasmin and persuade her to talk to him again. He wrote, “Immediately after our break-up, I had gone for an outdoor shoot for Zehreela Insaan, to Chitradurga in Karnataka, where I used to get drunk and make my co-star Neetu Singh (whom I later married) telephone Yasmin and try to cajole her into talking to me.”
Despite being a ‘strict father’, Rishi admitted to never imposing his opinions on Ranbir’s creative decisions and respecting his son’s career choices. In his book, Rishi Kapoor revealed that he and his son, Ranbir, always maintained a father-son relationship, but he couldn’t help but regret that they never became true ‘friends.’ However, Rishi’s wife, Neetu Kapoor, shared a close bond with their son Ranbir.
