Apple To Start Manufacturing OLED Displays For iPad Pro In 2024: Report
Apple is also planning to acquire about 10 million OLED panels for the iPad in 2024.

The Cupertino-based tech giant Apple is said to be gearing up for the release of its next-generation iPads with OLED displays in 2024. Now, A new report has revealed that the manufacturing of OLED displays specifically designed for the upcoming iPad Pro is scheduled to start in February 2024.

According to a report from the Korea Herald, LG Display is set to initiate OLED production for the new ‌iPad Pro‌ as early as February next year at their facility in Paju, Gyeonggi Province – a time frame around three months sooner than previously expected.

The sources close to Korea Herald claimed that the displays are expected to be three times the price of those used in iPhones, which could translate to higher prices for customers.

In addition to OLED display technology, the next-generation ‌iPad Pro‌ models are expected to feature slightly larger screens, the M3 chip, and a redesigned Magic Keyboard accessory, MacRumors reported. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo expects the new ‌iPad Pro‌ models to launch in the second quarter of 2024, which runs from April to June. This timeline broadly aligns with the latest rumor from the Korea Herald.

Reports suggest that Apple is also planning to acquire about 10 million OLED panels for the iPad in 2024. LG is expected to provide around 60 per cent of these panels, while Samsung will supply the rest, focusing mainly on the 11-inch model.

This production is seen as crucial for LG Displays’ financial recovery next year. Currently, LG and Samsung are working on finalising the pricing details with Apple.

The latest 11-inch ‌iPad Pro‌ has an LCD screen, but the 12.9-inch model uses mini-LED backlighting for brighter visuals and a better contrast ratio. OLED technology, which Apple plans to introduce, removes the need for backlighting. This brings advantages like a higher contrast ratio with deeper blacks, less power usage, and more vibrant visuals.

“Apple is likely to use ultra-thin hybrid OLED displays, combining flexible and rigid materials. This could make the next ‌iPad Pro‌ models a bit thinner,” said MacRumors.
