The Bharatiya Janata Party has nominated its firebrand Lok Sabha MP Nishikant Dubey to the Parliament’s Standing Committee on Home Affairs.
Dubey, who is an elected Member of Parliament from Jharkhand’s Godda, will replace party colleague and Chandigarh MP Kirron Kher in the panel.

The development comes amid heated discussions between members of the BJP and the opposition in the standing committee which is currently debating the three criminal bills: The Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023; The Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023; and The Bharatiya Sakshya Bill, 2023.
When the committee was last reconstituted, former home minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram was inducted into the panel. Besides Chidambaram, Digvijaya Singh and Derek O’Brien are among several leaders from the opposition camp.
As a member of the Standing Committee for Communications and Information Technology, Dubey took an aggressive stance on multiple issues and single-handedly took on opposition MPs, especially, Dr Shashi Tharoor, and Mahua Moitra amongst others.
During the recently concluded special session of Parliament, the BJP picked Nishikant Dubey as its opening Speaker in the Lok Sabha on the Women’s Reservation Bill. Dubey is a third-time Lok Sabha MP for BJP from Deoghar in Jharkhand. At present, he is also a member of the Parliamentary Committees for Commerce and Information Technology.
