Chennai Super Kings Likely to Release Ben Stokes: Report
Ace English all-rounder Ben Stokes was roped in by the Chennai-based franchise for a whopping sum of Rs 16.25 crore.

Defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have decided to part ways with English Test captain Ben Stokes ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The ace English all-rounder was roped in by the Chennai-based franchise for a whopping sum of Rs 16.25 crore. However, he played just a couple of games before spending the rest of the season on the bench.

On Thursday, the franchise officially stated that Stokes has made himself unavailable for IPL 2024 to manage his workload and fitness. The CSK management further extended their support to the all-rounder’s decision with England playing a 5-Test series in India before the IPL and then the T20 World Cup in June 2024.

A day later, Cricbuzz reported that CSK is willing to release Stokes along with South Africa’s Dwaine Pretorius and one of Sisanda Magala of South Africa and Kyle Jamieson of New Zealand (both Rs 1 cr). However, the picture will get clearer on November 26.

Top players available in the pool

The likes of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Travis Head, Rachin Ravindra, and Daryl Mitchell will be available for purchase in the mini-auction. The IPL 2024 is expected to start in mid-March, following the conclusion of the India vs England Five-test series.

WPL auction on December 9

The BCCI has announced that the Women’s Premier League (WPL) auction will take place on December 9 in Mumbai. It is going to be a mini Players’ auction as the five teams have already released the retention lists.

The five franchises — Mumbai, Delhi, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Gujarat Giants and UP Warriorz — had retained 60 cricketers, including 21 from overseas, ahead of the auction. A total of 29 players were released from contract from the existing squads.

Harmanpreet Kaur’s Mumbai Indians won the inaugural season of WPL as they beat Delhi Capitals by seven wickets in the final on March 26 at the Brabourne Stadium earlier this year.
