In a shocking incident from Delhi, a 15-year-old boy was apprehended along with his friend for allegedly murdering his 77-year-old grandmother to steal money from her house in the Shahdara area, police said on Saturday. The stolen cash worth Rs 14,000 was recovered from the main accused.
Police said that the elderly woman was found dead on the bed in her house in GTB Enclave on Thursday evening. The deceased’s husband initially thought she died of natural causes as he didn’t spot any external injury on her body.
However, when the relatives of the elderly lady began to arrive, they pointed out that she had an injury mark on the right side of her forehead, the police noted. Her husband later spotted cash missing from their locker and informed the police.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the elderly couple’s 15-year-old grandson studying in Class 9 had come to the house along with his friend on Thursday when the victim was alone, the police added.
When police interrogated the couple’s grandson on Friday, he broke down and confessed to the crime, following which he was apprehended.
During interrogation, the main accused, who resides with his parents in another house in the same locality, told the police he entered the house with his friend to steal cash. Upon finding his grandmother lying on the bed, he allegedly smothered her face with a blanket and hit a blunt object on her head.
The couple’s grandson told police he needed the cash for personal enjoyment. His friend, also 15 years old, has been apprehended from the same locality.
