It has been less than a week since Google launched the Pixel 8 series, which includes the Pixel 8 and the Pixel 8 Pro. However, new leaks about the purported Pixel 8a, expected to be Google’s mid-range Pixel device for 2024, have started coming in.
Revealed by Smartprix and OnLeaks, the unofficial renders of the Pixel 8a show a device similar in appearance to the mainline Pixel 8 series models and the Pixel 7 series before that. One notable change this time around is the fact that the body is more curved than before, especially in the corners of the device, and this is a change that the Pixel 8 models also have compared to the Pixel 7 series.
The publication reveals that the new device could be slightly smaller and less wide compared to the Pixel 7a, with the following dimensions: 152.1 x 72.6 x 8.9mm. In contrast, the Pixel 7a has the following dimensions: 152.4 x 72.9 x 9.0mm. The phone is said to feature a 6.1” panel with a cutout for the front-facing camera, and on the back, the phone is expected to have a dual-camera array.
Pixel 8a Could Share Internals With the Flagship Pixel 8 Pro
The Pixel 8a is also expected to be powered by the new third-generation Google SoC—the Tensor G3. MySmartPrice notes that it may be an underclocked version of the same chip, and it could be coupled with 8GB of RAM and run on Android 14 out of the box.
It isn’t clear when Google may release the Pixel 8a, but considering Google’s phones tend to leak quite early before the actual launch, the release may still be quite some time away. Last year, Google launched the Pixel 7a in May, so it’s possible that we may see the new Pixel 8a around May next year.
