Former Indian captain Virat Kohli had to play the role of a peace-maker between Shubman Gill and Marco Jansen as things got heated between the duo. A fired-up Gill smashed a 90m six against Jansen after which the pacer seemed to give a long stare to the Indian opener.
Shubman responded by shaking his head before Virat urged the 23-year-old to keep his composure during a high-octane clash between India and South Africa at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday.
Table toppers Indian team squared off against the second-placed South African side in a battle between the two most in-form teams of the World Cup 2023. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma had won the toss and he elected to bat first, crucially trying to challenge the Proteas who have scored multiple 350-plus totals batting first.

Shortly after the faceoff between Gill and Jansen, the Indian opener was dismissed on 23 courtesy of a sharp-turning delivery from Keshav Maharaj that bamboozled Shubman.
The ball pitched outside leg stump but turned sharply inside and clipped the top of the bails which completely took Shubman Gill by surprise. The wicket put the brakes on a smash-bang start from the first ten overs during which India scored 91 runs, but in the next ten overs, the Men in Blue could only score 33 runs.
