The initiative aims to identify, nurture, mentor, and establish semiconductor and IP design start-ups across India, with a focus on creating a robust ecosystem for chip design and innovation

NXP Semiconductors India, in collaboration with Start-up India, FabCi or Fabless Chip Design Incubator, and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, has launched the second edition of the Semiconductor Startup Incubation and Acceleration Program.

The initiative aims to identify, nurture, mentor, and establish semiconductor and IP design start-ups across India, with a focus on creating a robust ecosystem for chip design and innovation.

The programme, which kicked off in 2022, has successfully facilitated the growth of numerous start-ups in the semiconductor industry. It aims to provide support in various critical areas, including idea validation, visibility, mentorship, and access to the relevant ecosystem, aligning with India’s ambition to become self-reliant in semiconductor chip design.

The programme is a collaborative effort between NXP Semiconductors and FabCI incubator at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Hyderabad. MeitY, a key partner, brings its expertise and support to the initiative. The programme now invites applications from start-ups in semiconductor chip design, IP design, and design services, with a particular focus on areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), internet of things (IoT), 5G, Edge Computing, Functional Safety, Human Machine Interface, IoT Security, RISCV, quantum and more.

As per the details shared on the Start-up India website, companies from industries like automotive, industrial, communication infrastructure, mobile, smart city, and smart home are encouraged to participate in this programme. It was also stated that start-ups at various stages, ranging from Minimum Viable Product (MVP) to pilot trial stage, are eligible to apply. The key criterion is that they should have high potential to scale, possess valuable IP, and offer a clear competitive advantage in addressing a large potential market.

A wide range of stakeholders, including accelerators, incubators, investors, mentors, and individuals, are encouraged to engage with the programme, further expanding its reach and impact. The programme also extends its scope to cover a diverse set of industries and service types, from AI and healthcare to transportation and robotics.

Start-ups selected for the programme will receive non-fiscal incentives aimed at fostering their growth over a duration of two years. These incentives include 50+ hours of mentorship, access to a full suite of Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools, market value access worth approximately Rs 1 crore, collaboration with NXP as a trusted industry partner, access to NXP India’s Post-Silicon Lab, thought leadership sessions with experts, and the opportunity to participate in the NXP Demo Day with industry investors and experts.

The application process for the second edition of this programme is now open and the companies are asked to submit their applications before October 15. While the internal evaluation will be closed on November 15, pitching and selections for the programme will be conducted by December 7.
