Edible candles are a delightful fusion of creativity and culinary artistry, revolutionizing the world of both decoration and gastronomy. These innovative candles are crafted from safe, edible materials, such as high-quality chocolates or sugar-based confections, making them a unique addition to special occasions and celebrations. Edible candles not only provide a warm, ambient glow but also serve as delectable treats that can be savoured once the festivities are over. Perfect for adding a touch of sweetness to any event, they offer a novel and delectable way to light up your moments of joy.
What are edible candles?
Chef ViveQ Pawar, Roxie, says, “Edible candles are made from edible fat. I have mostly seen them used in desserts. They tend to use coconut oil along with white chocolate and cocoa butter as a base. The edible wicks are made from hemp seeds. Apart from white chocolate, these delectable candles are made from dark and milk chocolate as well. It depends on what flavours the guests enjoys. If they like a strong chocolate flavour, they should opt for dark chocolate.”
Edible Candles are candles that are made from butter. “At Candles Brewhouse we took a step ahead and added our flavours to them, which compliments the dish perfectly. For instance, we created Truffle Puffery, a blend of vegetables and truffle vol au vent and added the herb butter candle, the Zesty Paneer Tikka is filled with Pickle Vegetables and cheese and is crowned with paprika butter candle. The Fish Fusion Tango has a lovely coastal curry candle. For dessert, we innovated with the Choco-Berry Envelope with Blueberry Mousse and a chocolate butter candle,” says Chef Raju Vinkar, Candles Brewhouse.
Why are they the latest F&B trend?
The dining space has evolved and patrons enjoy an interactive dining experience. “Whether it is nitrogen-infused food or chocolate bombs, guests love to watch as their food is served differently. The advent of social media has also made chefs think out of the box as innovative videos tend to go viral, driving people to restaurants, as they would also like to be a part of the experience,” adds Pawar.
It is also fun, for instance, to consume candles with the cake. The experience of having everything edible on the plate is a novel experience that more and more people enjoy.
“You’ve probably heard the saying that you “eat with your eyes first,” and it’s so true. Adding a touch of experience to your dish not only makes it more memorable for our guests but also gets people talking and sparks creativity among other food and beverage brands. At Candles, we’re all about pushing the boundaries of innovation in the culinary world, setting new standards for what’s possible,” opines Vinkar.
Are they tasty
It all depends on how the chef makes them. Candles will need to have more fat percentage, so they burn easily. In chocolate candles, the cocoa percentage will be lesser than the edible fat, so it may not taste like a normal chocolate, but it is a new and exciting experience.
“The candles are flavoured butter which is handcrafted so they are delicious. We have flavours like mixed herb butter, paprika butter, saffron butter, chocolate butter amongst others. As they melt, they let out their aromas. These are a perfect indulgence for a date as well as they take their time to melt and envelop the dish with their flavours,” adds Vinkar.
4) Are they harmful
All food, even the ones that are considered extremely healthy should never be overeaten, as it can do more damage than good. Pawar feels, “Edibles candles have a very high fat percentage, so they can be indulged once in a while. I would not recommend that they be consumed regularly.”
The dishes are just made of butter that melt into your dish making them safe to be consumed. “However, as a precaution, we don’t recommend this to pregnant women, kids and anyone with breathing issues due to the smoke produced from the burning of the wick. One must also be careful while consuming these dishes as the fire from the lit candles needs to be handled with care,” signs off Vinkar.
