London/New Delhi: India captain Rahul Dravid had dismissed all talk of Sachin Tendulkar’s retirement on Wednesday itself. And the manager of the Indian cricket team in England Rajeev Shukla confirmed exactly that on Thursday in London, saying all talk of Tendulkar retiring was nothing but speculation.
“There is no question of seeking any retirement as far as One-Day Internationals are concerned. He has been playing so well on this England tour, so why should he take retirement? In fact, I have spoken to him and he hasn’t even thought of these things,” Shukla said, scoffing at speculation of Tendulkar’s retirement doing the rounds.
“I don’t know where from are these reports are appearing. So I completely deny all these reports, they are completely baseless, unfounded and I don’t think any importance should be given to it,” Shukla added.
CNN-IBN also spoke to former Indian cricketer and Tendulkar’s closest friend Vinod Kambli, who was categorical that the Master Blaster wasn’t going anywhere.
“There has been a lot of speculation. I have been hearing things, I have been called, I have been asked about what his plan is. And like (Sachin’s wife) Anjali said also, we would have got to know first if he was retiring. These rumours and speculations are very disturbing,” he said.
And another of Tendulkar’s former teammates Javagal Srinath told CNN-IBN that the signs are clear and Sachin will have to cut down on the number of games he plays.
“I would take this seriously only if Sachin talks about it. Yes, he does talk about body aches. These things happen when you play enormous amount of cricket. Time has come for him to pick and choose his game. Sachin will have to be pragmatic about his game. Somewhere down the line he has to cut down his cricket. I don’t think it’s time for him to quit one form of the game, may be ration his cricket to some extent,” Srinath, now an ICC match referee, said.
