In a rare interaction with a media house, BSP supremo Mayawati has called the feud in the Samajwadi Pariwar a "drama" and said the followers of Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav were a "criminal brigade."
"They should be called not the young brigade, but the criminal brigade," Mayawati said in an interaction with CNN-News18's Bhupendra Chaubey on Saturday. "Akhilesh Yadav has surrounded himself with people having criminal tendencies."
Mayawati also dismissed the feud in the first family of the ruling Samajwadi Party as a "drama to fool the people of Uttar Pradesh".
"Mulayam Singh Yadav is paying for the misdeeds of his own self. It's for the people of UP to see how he has fooled them. His son and his party will pay for this heavily in the forthcoming UP polls," she said.
Mayawati also hit out against Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah saying, "He has nothing to speak of other than nationalism. The BJP told people in 2014 that if it would come to power, it would give people 15 lakhs in their account. Later Amit Shah himself said that it was nothing but a jumla. We dont believe in Jumla. We are the only ones who have been talking about plight of poor soldiers in India. BJP despite trying to appropriate the entire credit for surgical strikes for its own self, has failed the soldiers of our country."
Mayawati, who has been the chief minister of UP four times, said neither the BJP nor the SP was in a position to provide a stable administration in Uttar Pradesh.
"People of UP looking for a govt which can provide stability and communal harmony. Neither BJP nor SP provide that. People of our state are aware of the kind of governance we provided and the kind of governance which is being given to them now. The difference couldn't be more ."
Mayawati, who rarely gives interviews to the media, was very forthcoming in the interaction which lasted over an hour during which she spoke on the present political situation in the state.
