Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee President D Srinivas is under the scanner of the election authorities following a complaint by BJP that he made a speech provoking minorities against the majority.

“The statement of PCC president in Nizamabad that he would sever the hands of those who point a finger at minorities is highly objectionable and meant to hurt the religious sentiments of the majority community,” the BJP said in its complaint to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) I V Subba Rao.

“The statement, the time and place are chosen to play vote bank politics by provoking minorities against majority community,” the complaint said.

The CEO said he is obtaining a report from the Nizamabad authorities and a decision over the matter is likely to be taken by tomorrow.

The CEO further said that unaccounted money of Rs 1.69 crore was seized by police since Sunday April 6, during checks to curb the flow of illegal money for elections.

For second phase of polling in the state on April 23, 2,421 candidates are in the fray for 140 assembly seats and 310 nominees are in the contest for 20 parliamentary constituencies, he added.

The last date for withdrawal of nomination for the second phase is April 8.
