New Delhi: Disgruntled senior BJP leader Gopinath Munde could be heading towards Congress if he is not able to sort out problems with his party leadership.
Though the Congress has not said anything formally, indications are that the party leadership was considering the pros and cons of the issue.
Reports were rife of Munde having met Congress in-charge of Maharashtra Mohan Prakash twice during the last 24 hours, even though Prakash denied it.
Munde is said to have met Prakash in a hotel late in the night. Another meeting reportedly took place between the two on Monday morning. Munde is also reported to have met Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan here yesterday.
"We are keeping an eye on the developments", was the refrain of Prakash to several queries from PTI, maintinaing that the developments were an internal matter of the BJP, but was a challenge to the leadership of party chief Nitin Gadkari".
The feud between Munde and Gadkari goes back several years. Gadkari was a political lightweight when Munde and the late Pramod Mahajan held sway over BJP politics in Maharashtra. Gadkari's elevation as BJP President changed the
equations drastically.
Munde is also close to senior Congress leader and Union Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, whom he had met last week. Dekhmukh is expected to arrive in New Delhi on Tuesday from Maharashtra. Both Munde and Deshmukh hail from the Marathwada region of the state.
Munde is a known detractor of NCP chief Sharad Pawar and any political move by the BJP leader could change the political equations in the state.
Pawar has already made it clear that his party has nothing to offer to Munde, while BJP has threatened to snap ties with the Shiv Sena in case it admitted a sulking Munde.
