Dramatic visuals emerged from Aam Aadmi Party’s headquarters in New Delhi on Wednesday as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders gathered outside AAP office and demanded resignation of chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Kejriwal’s plea against his arrest and remand in a money laundering case linked to the now scrapped excise policy of his government, was rejected by the Delhi High Court on Tuesday.
The BJP has stepped up pressure on the Delhi chief minister, asking him to resign in the wake of the high court order.
Kejriwal has approached the Supreme Court challenging the high court order.
Chief Justice of India D Y Chandrachud on Wednesday said he will look into Delhi CM’s request for an early listing of his plea. He asked Kejriwal’s lawyer to send an email.
“I will look into the e-mail (seeking early listing of plea). Please send the mail,” CJI Chandrachud told senior advocate and Kejriwal’s counsel Abhishek Singhvi.
“This is urgent and is regarding the Delhi chief minister. The arrest is based on an un-relied document and suppressed from us,” Singhvi said.
The high court on Tuesday asserted that there was no contravention of legal provisions as the ED had enough material in its possession to nail him. “Courts are concerned with constitutional morality and not political morality,” it said.
