BJP’s Bengal Rath Yatra Will Happen Soon, Won’t Bow Down Before Mamata Banerjee: Amit Shah

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party president Amit Shah on Friday vowed to go ahead with Rath Yatra in West Bengal and said he would not allow Mamata Banerjee to “gag the party in an undemocratic manner”.

Addressing a press conference in Delhi after the Calcutta High Court denied permission for Friday’s rally, Shah said the yatras were not cancelled, only postponed. “We will do it soon.”

“The legal battle is going on regarding permission to hold the ‘yatras’. We have placed all the valid points before the court and they cannot show us a single instance of communal clashes due to our meetings or rallies in Bengal,” Shah said.

“I personally visited Bengal 23 times and our PM Narendra Modi also visited, but can anyone show us that our events led to communal tensions in Benga?” he asked.

Accusing the Banerjee government of being undemocratic, the BJP chief said the police and administration are working together on her instructions.

“We are not going to bow down on any cost. Our ‘yatra’ will happen soon and I will flag off all the three of them. If required, we will go to the Supreme Court for justice but we will make this happen in Bengal.”

The BJP has challenged the single-bench order of the Calcutta High Court before a Division Bench. The HC had on Thursday refused permission after the administration voiced fears of communal riots.

Shah said Banerjee had intentionally created hurdles because she was scared of the BJP’s popularity among the masses.

“If she is traumatized, then what can we do. I don’t have any solution to her trauma and fear. People in Bengal are looking for a change. I would like to announce that the yatras will bring parivartan in Bengal,” Shah said.
