Political leaders all over the nation are condoling the death of veteran actor Shammi Kapoor.

Mumbai: Condoling the death of veteran actor Shammi Kapoor, Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Sunday said the industry has lost an "iconic figure". The 79-year-old actor died in the morning at Breach Candy Hospital.

Chavan said, "With his death, the industry has lost an iconic figure."

Union Minister for Science and Technology Vilasrao Deshmukh, "Shammi Kapoor was a superstar of our era. His dance style was a rage in our times. He was a fatherly figure for film industry. This is a big loss to the film fraternity."

Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde said on Sunday that it was a "sad day" for Bollywood.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said with the demise of Shammi Kapoor a 'colourful era' of the Hindi film industry has come to an end.
