Buddhadeb censured Anil Basu for allegedly using abusive language against Mamata Banerjee at an election meeting.

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Saturday censured veteran CPM leader Anil Basu for allegedly using abusive language against Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee at an election meeting and asked him to be cautious in the future.

Expressing displeasure over the use of such language by Basu at Arambagh on Friday, Bhattacharjee said in a statement "use of such words is unpardonable and unbecoming of a communist leader."

The chief minister said he had asked the party to warn Anil Basu.

The former CPM MP, who has won the Arambagh seat for seven times in a row in the past and recorded highest margin in the state in a Lok Sabha election, had allegedly hurled abuses against the TMC chief in the presence of senior local party leaders.

The TMC demanded stern action by the Election Commission against Basu, a former MP. "We are moving the EC for taking stern against Anil Basu under the law," Leader of the Opposition in Assembly Partha Chatterjee said.
