Congress chief's post only for Gandhis: Gadkari
BJP president says only in his party can workers rise to the highest post.

Hyderabad: BJP president Nitin Gadkari got into trouble a month ago for his “abusive” comments on two senior politicians. He apologized but doesn’t seem to have learned restraint.

Gadkari on Tuesday said senior Congress leaders like Manmohan Singh could never become the president of his party because the post was “reserved” for the Gandhi family.

"I was an ordinary worker. I did not know the roads of Delhi. I did not know the people in Delhi, still the party has elected me and selected me as leader of the party. It only happens in BJP. It will never happen in Congress. If Manmohan Singh dreams of becoming the party president, it will never be possible. Because the Congress party president's post is reserved for a family," he said in Hyderabad.

In May, Gadkari had to apologise to Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad and Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh Yadav after calling them Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s “dogs”.

Gadkari was speaking at a state executive meeting of BJP's Andhra Pradesh unit when he criticised the Congress. He blamed farmer suicides in the state and inflation in the country to the policies of the Congress-led United Progressive government at the Centre.

Congress rule in Andhra Pradesh is marked by infighting and failures like non-implementation of welfare policies and irrigation projects, he said.

He said a regional party leader - a hint at Praja Rajyam party president Chiranjeevi -- has met Congress chief Sonia Gandhi, which indicated new political alignments in the state.
