Bengaluru: The Congress and JDS together have captured the Bengaluru City Corporation or the BBMP. The Congress, JDS and Independents together have come to power at the BBMP by pushing the real winner - the BJP - which won 100 seats in the election held in August.
The Congress won 76 seats, JDS 14 and Independents 12 seats respectively. In a shocking development, these three political parties came together to grab power. BN Manjunath Reddy has been elected as the BBMP Mayor. He has secured 131 votes against 128 votes to the losing candidate of the BJP Manjunath Raju.
HC Nagarathna from BJP had also filed her nominations for the posts of Deputy Mayor. She lost to the Congress-JDS-Independents combine candidate who is actually from the JDS.
BJP corporators arrived in two buses to the BBMP office led by R Ashoka, former Deputy Chief Minister and top leader of the BJP from Bengaluru city. To prevent ‘horse’ trading, the Congress and JDS had sent their members to various resorts in Kerala and Karnataka.
The BJP has called it a murder of democracy.
