New Delhi: Suresh Kalmadi's key aides TS Darbari and Sanjay Mahendroo have nailed the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee chairman saying that they were only following instructions from the top," sources told CNN-IBN on Tuesday.
The two, who were arrested by the CBI on Monday, said they were only following instructions as it wasn't possible to take such a decision without consent from the top.
"'We didn't do any wrong' is their standard response," the source added.
While Darbari was the Joint Director of Commonwealth Games Organising Committee, Mahendroo was the Deputy Director General. The duo were arrested after they forged emails to justify high rentals and to hire AM Cars for the Queen's Baton Relay.
The CBI found that the email from the Indian High Commission employee Raju Sebastian was deliberately sent to Games Director Raj Singh.
The CBI probe also revealed that AM cars was paid a high rate of 375 pounds against the High Commission rate of 200 pounds.
Meanwhile, in a related move the government on Tuesday asked each agency and ministry concerned to conduct independent investigations.
Making a suo motto statement in Parliament, Sports Minister MS Gill said that all agencies and ministries concerned will conduct investigations into the allegation of corruption and those found guilty will be given exemplary punishment.
CAG has started auditing all expenditures relating to the CWG and the preliminary report to be submitted by first week of January, 2011, the minister said.
