Delhi Congress Chief Lovely refutes allegations of destroying files
Arvinder Singh Lovely defended himself and said that he had not stepped into the office since the code of conduct was implemented.

New Delhi: Refusing to come on camera to comment over the sting operation done by a private television channel showing officials shredding files in senior Delhi Congress leader Arvinder Singh Lovely's office, he denied the allegations that were being leveled against him.

The former education minister in the Sheila Dixit government defended himself in the case and said that he had nothing nothing to do with the files. "I have nothing to do with these documents, the OSD or the said files. I have not even stepped into the office since the code of conduct has been implemented. The OSD does not report to me anymore. He reports to the Chief Secretary," he said.

He also added that he had been taking care of the urban development department and thus had nothing to do with the education department. "I have had nothing to do with education department. I have been in urban development for one and a half year. Why are certain channels questioning me on education related matters now. How would I know of any scam. If someone is doing wrong they should be punished. Inquiry should take place but onus on the Chief secretary not me," Lovely said.

Earlier in the day, Delhi's Chief Minister designate Arvind Kejriwal kicked up a storm by saying that this was a conspiracy by the Congress leaders to hide corruption.

Kejriwal demanded that the state Chief Secretary ensures all files are safe. He also promised to crack down on private schools which charge exorbitant donations from parents for admissions.

"The sting operation shows that the officials have done something seriously wrong. It's the responsibility of the Delhi Chief Secretary that all files are safe," Kejriwal said.
