Domestic help death: BSP MP, his wife sent to Tihar jail till Friday
Jagriti has been charged with the murder of Rakhi while Dhananjay has been charged with abatement to murder and destruction of evidence.

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Monday remanded Bahujan Samaj Party MP Dhananjay Singh and his wife Dr Jagriti Singh in four days judicial custody in connection with the murder of their domestic help.

Dhananjay has also filed for bail and arguments on bail matter is posted for November 15.

The two were arrested last week in connection with the assault and murder of their 35-year-old domestic help Rakhi Bhadra. Jagriti has been charged with the murder of her domestic help while her husband Dhananjay has been charged with abatement to murder and destruction of evidence.

Jagriti who battered her maid to death informed the court through her lawyers that she was suffering from acute and uncontrollable depression. The judge countered her by saying that she may be suffering from depression and she has to submit papers to prove her claim. He also wanted to know if she was trying to seek immunity via legal insanity.

Rakhi's body, with several injury marks on her legs, chest and arms, was recovered from Singh's South Avenue residence on November 5. The minor domestic help had told police that Jagriti used to regularly beat them up.

The domestic helps were allegedly tortured and thrashed by Jagriti with sticks, iron rods, clothes iron and even metallic deer horns.

The domestic help Rakhi was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Dhananjay Singh's residence in New Delhi on November 5.
