New Delhi: Suspense prevails over who will be the next chief minister of Uttar Pradesh. Clamour within the Samajwadi Party has been growing for Mulayam Singh Yadav's son Akhilesh Yadav to take over, but Akhilesh claims that his father will be the chief minister.
IBN18 Editor-in-Chief Rajdeep Sardesai's take on whether Akhilesh and not Mulayam should be the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh:
A 38-year-old chief minister who is not tainted by a dark past, if Uttar Pradesh wants to really take a leap forward, then Akhilesh Yadav as chief minister is a very attractive concept. However, as we've seen in Kashmir, youthful exuberance does not always make for good politics.
Mulayam is also a glue who will hold the Samajwadis together like Akhilesh perhaps still cannot. And yet, despite the reservations one might have of suddenly catapulting Akhilesh into the top job this maybe the best time for UP to take a chance.
It's a state with an ageing system but a youthful electorate. Maybe, Akhilesh is the man to bridge the gap.
