New Delhi: In an embarrassment for BJP president Nitin Gadkari, a CAG report tabled in the Chhattisgarh Assembly says coal blocks were allocated to his key aide Ajay Sancheti at throwaway prices.
Accessed by CNN-IBN, the CAG report accuses Raman Singh administration of causing a loss of over 1000 Rs crore by allocating a coal block in 2007 to SMS infrastructure, a company owned by Sancheti himself.
The report states that a coal block was given to Sancheti's company by the state administration at a throw away price of Rs 129.60 per metric ton, While the market rate in the same region was Rs 552 per metric ton.
Nitin Gadkari wasn't the BJP president in 2007. His clout was also much lesser. But he is the party president now. At a time when the BJP has launched an all out attack against the UPA on the basis of several CAG reports, Will he act against his own man now.
Raman Singh said, "All this is just on the basis of estimates, nothing concrete about it."
Nand Kumar Patel, Congress President, Chhattisgarh, said "This shows the true colour of BJP."
