'He Left Amethi 5 Yrs Ago & Now...': Smriti Irani's Fresh Salvo At Rahul Gandhi Amid Rift in INDIA Bloc
While claiming that Rahul Gandhi was not welcomed by the locals of Amethi, Irani said, "the anger of the people of Amethi against the Gandhi family is clearly visible...today when he (Rahul Gandhi) arrived, he was welcomed by empty streets"

Union Minister and BJP MP from Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi who held a Jan Samwad at her parliamentary constituency on Monday attacked Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Taking a dig at Gandhi, who was earlier the representative of Congress from this district of Uttar Pradesh, the BJP MP said, ” Five years ago Rahul Gandhi left Amethi and today you can see Amethi has left him.”

The BJP leader further said that Gandhi was welcomed by empty streets this time when he visited his erstwhile constituency, “empty streets were showing that they have nothing to do with the Gandhi Family,” she added.

While claiming that Rahul Gandhi was not welcomed by the locals of Amethi, Irani said, “the anger of the people of Amethi against the Gandhi family is clearly visible…today when he (Rahul Gandhi) arrived, he was welcomed by empty streets.”

“Amethi has received an investment of Rs 6523 crore in the Investors Summit.” she added.

Amethi used to be a Congress stronghold in Uttar Pradesh, where Rahul Gandhi lost to Smriti Irani by a margin of around 55,000 votes in the 2019 elections.’

The Congress is still undecided on wether Rahul Gandhi will make an attempt at regaining the Congress stronghold specially since Sonia Gandhi has also left Rae Bareili for the Rajya Sabha.

“CEC will decide on who will contest from Amethi. Rahul Gandhi has been an MP from Amethi thrice. His father Rajiv Gandhi also used to contest from Amethi. It is a very important constituency for the Congress party,” said Congress leader Jairam Ramesh.

This is perhaps the only second time since 2019 that the two leaders will be in Amethi at the same time. They had been in the town at the same time in February 2022 to attend different campaign events in the run-up to the assembly polls.
