Chandigarh: Haryana's main Opposition party, INLD on Thursday raised slogans inside the State Assembly demanding suspension of Question Hour and asking the Speaker that their adjournment motion on Jat reservation issue be taken up first.
As soon as the House assembled for its sitting on the second day of Monsoon session today, Legislators of Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) demanded that the BJP government must clarify its stand on the issue.
Led by their senior leader and Leader of Opposition, Abhay Singh Chautala, the INLD MLAs remained adamant demanding the adjournment motion be taken up immediately.
Various leaders of the saffron outfit were speaking in different tones on the issue that included their Kurukshetra MP who aired his views against reservation to the Jats, Chautala said. As the Opposition members raised slogans, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar intervened in the matter, saying the reservation issue has been going on for years and though it was important, but not one which warrants suspension of Question Hour.
"Reservation issue is important for the State and the country, but not such that we should suspend the Question Hour," he told the House.
As the INLD legislators remained adamant, Speaker Kanwar Pal told them that he had decided to convert their adjournment motion into Calling Attention Motion and will be taken up in the House on Friday.
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ram Bilas Sharma told the INLD members since the Speaker had given his ruling they should allow the Question Hour to go on smoothly. Afterwards, the Question Hour, whose time was extended by nearly 15 minutes, went on smoothly.
Later talking to reporters outside the Assembly, Abhay Chautala said, "BJP should clarify its stand on reservation issue. Their MP Raj Kumar Saini says one thing while their other leaders say another thing."
"They could have brought a two-line resolution on the reservation issue. We wanted the government to clarify whether they want reservation for Jats, Sikhs, Bishnois, Rors and Tyagis," he added.
