Coimbatore: AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa on Wednesday said the killing of Tamils in Sri Lanka could have been avoided had Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, whose party DMK was supporting the UPA government at the Centre, seriously considered withdrawing support to it.
“Lives of thousand of Sri Lankan Tamils could have been saved had Karunanidhi seriously considered withdrawing support to the Centre instead of threatening to withdraw support to it, as he was doing frequently", she said addressing a well- attended election meeting here.
Seeking support to AIADMK's fronts candidates in Coimbatore; she alleged Karunanidhi was only interested in the welfare of his family members and not that of the people of the state.
The April 13 assembly poll is a chance to end the "misrule of Karunanidhi and his family. If he is allowed to become Chief Minister for the sixth time, the family would loot entire Tamil Nadu", she charged.
Alleging that Karunanidhi's family had "monopolised" the fields of cinema, media and cable TV, she said all other sectors would become under their control if one more chance was given to DMK.
On 2G spectrum scam, Jayalalithaa alleged while it had been "scripted by Karunanidhi, Dayalu Ammal and Rajathi Ammal (his wives) and his daughter Kanimozhi, A Raja, a dalit leader, was arrested and Sadiq Batcha lost his life".
She asked the voters to make DMK "enter the Guinness Book of World Records by forfeiting deposits in the maximum number of constituencies".
In democracy, elections were the only tool to change the government but this poll was very important for the people of Tamil Nadu as this would "free the state and the people from a corrupt government and family and also liberate them from slavery", Jayalalithaa said.
Turning to local issues, Jayalalithaa accused the state government of being responsibe for the plight of dyers in nearby Tirupur who had to close down over 700 dyeing units due to pollution problems as Karunanidhi "failed" to take any steps to solve the issue.
"A golden reign is awaiting the people of Tamil Nadu if the electorate gave mandate to AIADMK and its alliance partners", she said.
