Kerala is set to witness polling for Aruvikkara by election with voting starting at 7 am on saturday.
The by-election in Kerala's Aruvikkara district is going to be a litmus test for the ruling United Democratic Front (UDF) government. The election is set to be a three-cornered battle between the Left, UDF and Bhartiya Janata Party.
A win in these by polls would mean a mandate for the ruling UDF as the opposition has targeted Oommen Chandy government over allegations of graft in the solar scam and bar bribery scam.
The BJP is also keen on opening its account in Kerala. The party has fielded senior leader O Rajagopal who had had given a tough competition to Congress MP Shashi Tharoor in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.
"The central issue in these election are the allegations about corruption. In the state cabinet. There are six ministers who are facing corruption charges against them," said Rajagopal.
For the CPI-M led Left Democratic Front (LDF) this election is crucial in the background of the several scams and criticism against the UDF government.
These election results will also set the trend for the local body elections and the Assembly elections in 2016.
