Lalu challenged the MPs, leading to higher decibel levels in Parliament

New Delhi: Railway Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad had the Opposition on its feet after he challenged them to a 'Mahabharat' during the debate on the trust vote on Tuesday.

A fiery Lalu Prasad made the remark when he got up to support his party MP Devendra Kumar Yadav whose speech about the BJP government in Rajasthan had led to protests from the BJP benches.

"We are ready for a Mahabharat with you," Lalu said as the House degenerated into chaos - quite different from the sombre mood in the morning when it met to debate the trust vote that will decide the fate of the Manmohan Singh Government.

As the BJP MPs protested, the inimitable Lalu Prasad got progressively louder and challenged them further leading to higher decibel levels.

"I have become a minister from a MP. I will speak," Lalu said and could be seen shouting back at the BJP MPs.

Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha Charanjit Singh Atwal of the Akali Dal had a hard time controlling both sides as they were on their feet.

Atwal could be seen requesting the members to sit down but not many paid heed.
