Hours after the Haryana Police sought cancellation of visas and passports of the farmers involved in the protest, Congress veteran Manish Tewari slammed the Haryana government saying that those subjected to this “coercive action” are free to contact him and that the law chambers will “fight for them pro-bono”.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the Congress leader said, “Have we become a fascist state that if you protest your passports and visas will be cancelled? This is a first even by the very low bar that has been set to intimidate farmers. Those subjected to this coercive action are free to contact me. Our Law Chambers will fight for them pro-bono.”

Tewari’s comments came in response to a video released by news agency ANI in which Ambala DSP Joginder Sharma was heard saying that the Haryana Police have identified those involved in violence during the agitation and are in the process of cancelling their visas and passports.
“We have identified them with CCTV cameras and drone cameras. We will request the ministry and embassy to cancel their visas and passports. Their photos, name and address will be given to the passport office. We are working on cancelling their passports,” Sharma was quoted by ANI.
Haryana Police to Cancel Passports of Protesters Involved in Farmers Protest
In a move against the ongoing farmers’ protest, the Haryana Police informed that it has decided to cancel the passports and visas of those protesters involved in violence and who damaged public properties along the Punjab-Haryana border.
This came after the protesting farmers on February 13 reportedly damaged multi-layer barricades put up by the police to stop them at the border, by removing cement and barbed wire fencing with tractors. The farmers were trying to break the barricades to cross the Shambhu border to enter Haryana from Punjab and head to Delhi for the scheduled march.
