New Delhi: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former party president Dr Murli Manohar Joshi's constituency Varanasi has been given to party's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. Joshi has been moved to Kanpur.

The decision was taken at the party's Central Election Committee (CEC) meet after which the party released its fourth list of Lok Sabha candidates.

On one hand Joshi was unwilling to shift his constituency and on the other senior party leader Kalraj Mishra was eyeing the Kanpur seat. Mishra has been given ticket for the Deoria seat.

The reports of shifting Joshi's constituency has been doing rounds for several months. He had earlier expressed his reluctance in giving up his seat and held a meeting in his constituency with his supporters to press for his credentials for contesting from Varanasi. Even though Joshi has stated that he will follow the party's dictate, he made his displeasure known to all.

Joshi had earlier sent out a subtle message to the party leadership by saying it should keep in mind the winnability aspect besides the "prestige" of the prime ministerial candidate while taking a decision.

Joshi had even written letter to party President Rajnath Singh in this regard and sought a clarification.
